Scott Lemn heads into his fourth season at the helm of the Bridgewater College football team in 2024.
In 2023, the Eagles finished 7-4 on the year and earned a spot in the first annual Cape Henry Bowl as part of the Chesapeake Challenge involving the ODAC and Landmark Conference. Bridgewater took third in the league standings and faced a pair of top 10 teams in the national rankings. Lemn guided 10 Eagles to all-conference laurels including Kennedy Fauntleroy, Aaron Moore, Aaron Nice and Preston Turner who took first team honors.
Lemn's squad posted a record of 9-2 in 2022, including the program's first trip to the Neptune Bowl in Virginia Beach. The Eagles ended the season among those Receiving Votes in the D3football.com national top 25 poll.Bridgewater averaged nearly 34 points per game, which is the highest since the ODAC Championship season of 2019. The Eagles boasted nine All-ODAC performers and a trio of all-region honorees. Jack Hendren was named an All-American by D3football.com, while Garrett Graves earned Specialist of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Richmond and VaSID. Aaron Nice capped the year's accolades as he claimed State Defense Rookie of the Year, as voted by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.
The Eagles ended the season with a pair of national statistical championships as the kickoff unit led all of Division III in returns, while return man Brendan Robinson led the individual average list in the nation. The defense also boasted one of the best seasons in team history as the Eagles sat atop or close to the top the NCAA in several categories throughout the year.
In his first season at the helm of the Eagles, Lemn guided a trio of student-athletes to D3football.com all-region laurels, including Garrett Graves who earned All-America accolades and first team all-region honors in his second season as the team's primary punter. In addition, linebacker Brett Tharp and defensive back Chase Rosenthal also claimed all-region honors and were selected as Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) First Team All-State. The team saw 10 players earn All-ODAC honors, which was the fourth time in the last six seasons the program received at least 10 postseason conference selections.
Lemn claimed his first victory as a head coach with a 31-7 decision against Gettysburg on September 4 to start the 2021 season.
He was previously an assistant with the Eagles for 11 years, including two as offensive coordinator. He directed the offensive line for eight seasons after coaching the defensive line in 2010, and was also the program's assistant head coach.
Bridgewater football returned to the NCAA tournament in 2019, going 10-1 and clinching the ODAC championship at home vs. Randolph-Macon. The Eagles hosted a first round tournament game and were ranked #20 in the postseason polls.
The offense featured the State and ODAC Player of the Year (quarterback Jay Scroggins) and Rookie of the Year (wideout Viante Tucker). BC's offense included three All-Region, five All-State and eight All-ODAC selections in 2019.
The Eagles ranked fifth nationally in Division III in red zone offense (.943) in 2018, while averaging 33.6 points and 222 yards rushing per game in conference play. Right tackle Will Hoffman was a first team All-ODAC and second team All-State selection.
In Lemn's eight seasons coaching the BC offensive line, the Eagles have had nine All-State selections on the unit- including four straight All-State nods at center from 2012-15, Lemn's former position. In total, he has had 18 All-ODAC selections on his units since joining the Bridgewater staff in 2010.
In 2016, the Eagles had an All-State selection at offensive line for the sixth straight year with senior transfer Jack Howerton. Jacob Heaton also gave the Eagles an All-ODAC center for the seventh consecutive season in 2017.
Center Sean Douglass was named All-State in 2013, 2014 and 2015, with the Eagles earning a total of six All-ODAC offensive line selections over those three seasons. Douglass was also an Academic All-American and the ODAC Scholar-Athlete in his senior season.
Center Shawn Otte was joined by fellow lineman Kyle Keister as first team All-State choices in 2012.
In 2011, the Eagles had three All-ODAC offensive linemen, including two All-State selections and honorable mention D3proday.com All-American George Sheaffer.
Prior to coming to Bridgewater, Lemn began his coaching career at conference rival Randolph-Macon.
Prior to Lemn's time with the Yellow Jackets, he was a first team All-American at James Madison in 2008 (AP, The Sports Network, Walter Camp Foundation, College Sporting News) and was the Rimington Award winner as the nation's top center while aiding the Dukes to a FCS semifinal appearance and a No.1 ranking for much of the '08 season.
The two-time, first-team All-CAA selection graduated in December 2008 with a degree in kinesiology and a concentration in sports management.
Lemn resides in Bridgewater with his wife Rachel and four children.
